I should explain what I mean by “Healing Inner Hurt from the Mother” and what I mean is that we can experience a deep inner hurt resulting from our mother’s lack of commitment either to our own birth, or the circumstances of her life at our birth.
It’s probably still a bit taboo to admit that we can experience a hurt as deep as this in our life – because it there has been a deep taboo about talking and feeling in this way about our own mother. And this is especially true in Ireland, this taboo is still powerfully strong. But the reality is that many of us feel hurt and experience being stuck in life and relationships and it’s coming from our mother’s feeling for us at our birth.
Some of us feel our karmic wounds deeper than others. My own karma has taken a lifetime to play out, and at the age of 63 I’m still working deeply with this. The negative results of karmic wounds and hurt in our life I call Life En-Stuck-Ment. It may not be perfect English or a recognised healing term: but like the word “entrapment” when you have “en-stuck-ment” someone has put you there.
The truth about karma is quite simply that is comes from some form of judgement: either yours or someone else’s – and this judgement has an effect, usually negative.
The mother’s feelings at our birth that can affect us very deeply are especially her lack of commitment. If your mother was lacking in commitment at your birth, either for her own life or yours . . . then there was negative judgement, which plays out as karma.
I say all of this very sensitively, because a big mystery was cleared up for me about 5 years ago – and I added this new knowledge to what my own experience in life, training, practice and working with people had taught me.
Biologically and Spiritually
Biologically, your mother’s body prepares you whilst in the womb, for the environment you are about to be born into. This happens through her Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Adrenal axis and it is the way you get your messages and preparation for your birth environment. So there is the biological effect.
Spiritually, though, we know that you get your wisdom from your own mother’s “wisdom body”: this is the subtle energetic body we know of in our practices on the ancient wisdom paths of Yoga, Meditation, Mindfulness, Tai Chi, etc. Your wisdom body is your higher intellect, myths and dreams come from your wisdom body: it is the experience of life at a deeper, fulfilling and more enriched level of your energy.
For your mother’s body to have passed on to you a lack or block, means that you will find difficulty in experiencing life deeply and richly: the lack meaning you have difficulty committing and something will always be missing.
My own blocks and “baggage”
Whilst recovering from the damaging effects of physical abuse during childhood, and the deep scars of catholic guilt and the way that played out in my early life, I hit the blocks and hurts of my own mother’s “stuff” – you could call it baggage.
I was incredibly lucky, over 25 years ago, to work with 2 of my teachers in meditation, breathwork, relaxation and regression . . . and my healing practices today are a result of that teaching, practice, knowledge and wisdom. In my work, I take people back to the first breath they took in life . . . and we change that breath to positivity, hope, strength – full of positive life force energy.
It works on the energetic level, it’s a re-wiring if you like – it sets in motion a healing process.
Paradoxically, this is actually not a big commitment in terms of time and healing. The commitment, following a healing session comes in working out what is going to work for you in your own life, say about a regular practice in bodywork, mind-body-spirit work, meditation and lifestyle. There is another paradox: when you take responsibility, this is what cuts the chains that have bound you and sets you free.
I do of course prepare people for their healing, and having been doing this for 25 years or so, I provide short downloads in advance: audio relaxations, contemplations and introduction to meditation. There is follow-up support as well, by way of free classes on my Youtube Channel.
I call this healing process: “The First Breath” . . . and I say it is a “breath of fresh air” in your life.
